Bahamas DXpedition 2009

Philosophical B.S.

With apologies to Dr. Dirty, John Valbe, I'm feeling a bit philosophical tonight. Probably helps that my college minor was philosophy.

Why Travel?

On of the main questions I get from my friends, is why bother to travel. You it can be a tough world outside our borders. So why leave the comfortable confines of the USA? The answer of course is to help understand our friends around the world and hopefully better appreciate all the blessing we have within our borders.

Why Ham Radio?

Ham radio give you a chance to see the world without leaving your “shack.” Chance conversations with citizens from almost every nations is one of our rewards. The ability to be work outside the network allows for more real communications. The ability to work the radio from tropic islands is a reward in itself. Beyond radio, much to the chagrin of many of my friends has not been planned out in any detail for this trip. The only planned side excursion is a trip to the Public Utilities Commission to renew my Bahamas License and possible get a real C6 call sign.

More philosophy to follow in future blog posts.

P.S. The East Greenbush Hamfest 2009 went very well. See here for some pictures from Lee (W2HAT) and Craig (W2XAD).
